Siebel Open UI is Introduced from version 8.1.1.9 or 8.2.2.2. This is the first "Innovative Pack" released by Oracle Inc. Also a major change in the Siebel Installation Pack after Oracle acquired from Siebel Inc. All is done for better looking, smooth navigation and all browser support.
From developers point of view there are not many changes in the Siebel Tools Application. Since this Innovation Pack is more related browsers, developers has to concentrate on learning new technologies for future releases.
New technologies involved in the Siebel Open UI:
- HTML 5
- CSS 3
- Java Script
- J Query
To get this innovation pack (IP) ready on PCs one must install the base version of the supported Siebel Application. Then on top of the base version this IP must apply as a patch. These details are given in the MR Guide in the bookshelf of the respective release guide.
If the base version is not available, then base version and patch version both can be created at the time of Siebel Image creation process. For that both versions of the files need to supply (Jar files) either in the same folder or multiple folders. Once Image Files are created then can proceed with installation. It will ask for Home directory if applying for a patch otherwise it will start fresh from the base.
Remaining steps are as usual like any other installation of general 8.x. Once all steps are done then it shows installation success message. (Enterprise Server / SWSE / Clint )
And finally most important thing is tools where all patch files are available. Tools is must to get all patch files. How to process these copied patch files are specified in the MR (Maintenance Release) Document of that particular release.
Once all the patch files are installed, can launch and test for the OPEN UI. Final words - it is not as straight forward as Siebel normal installation, it takes lot of time (due to take backup of base version) to apply patch files and lot of manual work involved to make things right.
